Companies increasingly use OneDrive, which is why Microsoft adds features like "Document collaboration and co-authoring." Working together with Office documents is very popular for users, especially with Excel and Word. However, once the feature is enabled, you might get the error message: "Server File Updated. A newer version is available". You will find numerous hints on the Internet about the error, but nothing helped my customer.
With my customer, it was clear. Once the feature "Document collaboration and co-authoring" was enabled, they got the error "Server File Updated. A newer version is available" as soon as they opened any Excel file out of OneDrive.
We researched the Internet, but nothing led to a positive result. Then we removed all users' Microsoft group policies, and the issue didn't occur any more. Now the only question was: What GPO exactly caused the error? Quickly, I could identify the group policy in question: "Turn on file synchronization via SOAP over HTTP"
This GPO has moved from the Office 2013 settings and never caused any issues before, but at that time, the customer didn't use Microsoft OneDrive! Changing the group policy in question too "not configured", solved the problem.
