VYou may have noticed this, or maybe not, but the content isn't displayed in Office (Excel, Word, etc.) when you scroll. This occurs with Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 and XenApp/XenDesktop 7.x. This can be very annoying, and it took some time to figure out that Citrix is to blame is!
In Windows Server 2012 R2, the Windows Performance setting is no longer tied to the VirtualFX key, but rather to the new UserPerformanceMask Registration key. If entries are missing here, Office products (other applications may work fine) will not display the content while you scroll. When using Microsoft Progmon, it is clear that Citrix wfshell modifies the value so significantly during login that only three settings are actually set.
A search in the Citrix Knowledge Base returns Hotifx ICATS760WX64034 which must be installed, as well as the following registry value:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Citrix EnableVisualEffect REG_DWORD = 1
Problem solved? Hmm, NO! This hotfix cannot be used with the last VDA Agent 7.6.300 version and is also Not included! Someone at Citrix forgot to „check in“ the fix for new versions of the VDA. Currently, there is no hotfix available for this either.
It is possible to use the wfshell.exe file from the hotfix with the new VDA, and of course it works I advise against it to do this, as it could have unforeseen side effects.
Update: Citrix has „twisted“ the registry value with 7.6.300 VDA and EnableVisualEffect must be set to „0“ and not „1“!
